Central Ohio man dead in Richland County crash near Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Ohio (WCMH) — A central Ohio man is dead after a one-vehicle crash in Richland County over the weekend.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the area of Ontario, Ohio, just west of Mansfield, on Friday night, Sept. 19. The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. on U.S. Route 30 West, where a 2001 white Cadillac CTS was found off the right side of the road with two occupants inside.

The Cadillac reportedly was traveling westbound, just west of the North Lexington-Springmill Road exit, when it lost control and veered off the road. The vehicle struck multiple trees before coming to a stop.

Pronounced dead at the scene was 43-year-old Cody Newton, of Lexington. A female passenger was taken to Mansfield Ohio Health with minor injuries and is expected to survive.  

No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were impacted by the crash, which remains under investigation by the OSHP.
