Ohio State's Ryan Day discusses upcoming Big Ten showdown against Penn State
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- No. 1 Ohio State returns from the bye week with a home game against Penn State, a matchup that was once expected to be a blockbuster but has since lost its luster.
Coach Ryan Day will address reporters at noon Tuesday from the team room at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. You can watch his comments as it happens in the player above.
Although the Buckeyes are undefeated at 7-0 and riding an 11-game win streak, the Nittany Lions are stuck in a four-game losing streak, with each of those losses decided by six points or fewer. Since an overtime loss to Oregon, Penn State has changed coaches and lost its starting quarterback Drew Allar to injury.
Redshirt freshman and Olentangy graduate Ethan Grunkmeyer has stepped in at QB, and Terry Smith leads the Nittany Lions as interim coach.
"It's motivation. No one believes in us. We're going to come out and fight. We did at Iowa, but we're going to fight a little harder," Smith said. "Jeremiah Smith is as good as they come. Our job on the back end is to make those guys earn it. We have to limit their explosive plays, keep the ball in front of us, make them earn their way down the field and not give up one-play scores."
Leading the Penn State defense is former Buckeyes coordinator Jim Knowles. The Nittany Lions are allowing an average of 19.43 points and 303.7 yards.
