Trump admin official mulls primary challenge to GOP gov defying Trump: report
A Trump administration official is considering running for governor of New Hampshire after the sitting governor refused to go along with the administration's redistricting plans, according to a new report.
Corey Lewandowski, who serves as a senior advisor in the Department of Homeland Security, is reportedly considering primarying Gov. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), according to Politico. Ayotte is a first-time governor, and the White House has upped pressure on governors like her to redraw their election maps.
“Governor is the only job in Politics I would ever consider giving up what I am currently doing for,” Lewandowski texted the outlet.
Lewandowski has been with the Trump organization since his first campaign in 2016. He currently oversees a sizable portfolio within DHS, including reportedly having veto power on agency contracts valued at $100,000 or more.
However, Democrats have criticized Lewandowski's service time within the administration. Lewandowski is currently serving in a temporary role, meaning he can only work 130 days or fewer. He has served in DHS since the beginning of the second Trump administration, which has led some to question how Lewandowski is counting his days, Politico reported.
