[Women's Soccer] San Diego Christian Draw 1-1 at La Sierra
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – With almost a two-week gap between games, the San Diego Christian College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with host La Sierra University in a rare Sunday evening NAIA matchup. The result moves the Hawks to 3-2-2 on the season with only one non-conference match remaining before the opening of GSAC play.
The Hawks came out firing in the opening half, outshooting their Golden Eagle opponents 5-1 and earning 2 corner kicks to LSU's 0. The offensive pressure was there but SDCC could not break through before the half.
The Hawks would not have to wait long in the second half to get their breakthrough. San Diego Christian's All-GSAC striker, Ashlyn Edwards, would tear through the middle of the Golden Eagle defense and place SDCC's first shot of the half in the back of the net.
La Sierra would answer quickly, however, and knot the game back up around four minutes later. Each team would only register a single shot on goal the rest of the way, each making the necessary save to preserve the draw.
Head Coach Gerardo Hidalgo saw many positives in the match, "La Sierra gave us a run for our money, they did not make the game easy for us so you have to give them credit. We had 13 days without a game and it showed. We were one pass, one step, and one run away from getting that second goal. There were many positives, however. We got another goal in the stat sheet, every player worked hard, and everyone was engaged during the game. We now have our sights set on Westcliff, which will be another tough game, but our girls are ready for the challenge."
