Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Is Now Available On EA Play
BioWare's Mass Effect Legendary Edition is now playable for EA Play and Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Released in May 2021 on PC and consoles, Mass Effect Legendary Edition enhances the original trilogy with better visuals, improved performance, and refined gameplay mechanics, allowing fans and newcomers alike to explore the definitive version of the beloved space odyssey.
The collection packs in all three role-playing games, along with their respective DLC offerings - minus the first entry's Pinnacle Station content. Such a release had been a longtime coming, too, particularly due to the fact that, for console players, the Mass Effect trilogy was stranded on seventh-generation hardware. With BioWare and EA officially confirming the existence of a fourth mainline installment in late 2020, last year seemed as good a time as any for Commander Shepard and friends to finally reclaim their place in the Milky Way galaxy.
Starting today, January 6, even more players can jump into the spacefaring experience, thanks to Mass Effect Legendary Edition's arrival in the EA Play library. By proxy, the collection is also available on PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. EA Play by itself costs $4.99 per month and unlocks access to a library of EA-published games, 10 percent discounts on EA digital purchases, and member-only content. For $9.99 a month, PC Game Pass subscribers can play over 100 titles on the service, as well as enjoy the EA Play on PC catalog at no extra charge. Game Pass Ultimate, on the other hand, costs $15 per month for EA Play, PC and console game downloads, and free in-game perks. With Mass Effect Legendary Edition now in the ranking, each of these services seems more than worth the price of entry.
The Legendary Edition's advent on EA Play and Game Pass comes just a couple of months after N7 Day, the Mass Effect-dedicated community celebration wherein BioWare occasionally shares new details about the series. Last year's online festivities saw the studio close out the day with the reveal of a brand-new Mass Effect poster, which further teased the fourth mainline installment.
BioWare and EA formally announced the next Mass Effect in late 2020, alongside a teaser trailer at The Game Awards. Of course, the quick video didn't offer much in the way of concrete details, though Liara T'Soni's appearance suggests BioWare plans to revisit the trilogy's overarching narrative to some degree.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available to play now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
