Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Trailer Reveals Jean-Luc In The Present Day
The new trailer for Star Trek: Picard season 2 shows more details about the time travel plotline of this season. Picard originally launched on Paramount Plus in 2020, following Patrick Stewart's Star Trek: The Next Generation character Jean-Luc Picard on his adventures in his older years. The series also stars Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, and Orla Brady.
Although the response to Picard season 1 was mixed, it was renewed for a follow-up. That was delayed somewhat by filming issues in the pandemic era, but production finally managed to conclude in fall 2021, and the second season is set to premiere on March 3, 2022. The show certainly seems to be taking a new direction in its upcoming season, which will use time travel to shake up the setting considerably. The show will also continue establishing the new characters introduced to the Next Generation universe, giving them meatier arcs and allowing them to support the ongoing storyline.
Paramount Plus has just dropped a brand new trailer for Star Trek: Picard season 2 ahead of the premiere. The trailer dives deep into the time travel plotline of the new season, showing glimpses at the way Picard and his crew handle being sent back to Earth in the year 2024, some funny and some extremely grave. The trailer teases that this season will explore the "road not taken," perhaps exploring an It's a Wonderful Life-style scenario about the choices Picard has made in his life, or even the turning points in history that led to those huge decision points. Star Trek: Picard season 2 will feature the return of several more characters who originated in The Next Generation, including Q (John de Lancie) and Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg). The Borg Queen, who has a featured moment in the trailer, is also set to appear, now played by Annie Wersching. Brent Spiner, who played the android Data, will also be appearing as a different character who is a member of the Soong family, after whom Data was originally modeled.
While Star Trek: Picard won't mark the first time that the franchise has traveled to modern-day Earth, this season certainly seems to be making a play at tying the time travel aspects to the character in a thematically challenging way. This season's success will likely be pivotal in the show continuing on for further episodes. Ultimately fans will vote with their views whether or not the show's storytelling gamble has paid off.
