Vanderpump Rules: Katie & Tom Spotted Together After Announcing Split
Days after announcing their split, Vanderpump Rules stars Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz were seen having lunch together. After weeks of speculation, the Bubbas confirmed in Instagram statements that they were ending their marriage. The two were together for 12 years and married for about six. However, due to a paperwork mishap, the marriage was only made legal three years ago, after a second ceremony in Las Vegas.
Despite how long they were together, many fans weren't surprised by Katie and Tom's split. Viewers of the Bravo series watched as they constantly fought over the years. Their lack of intimacy was also a frequent topic of conversation. Likewise, Tom was often criticized for not standing up for Katie, especially when it came to her contentious interactions with his best friend and business partner Tom Sandoval. In the days after their breakup was confirmed, the reality stars had more attention on them than ever. Tom was photographed still wearing his wedding ring, and now they've been spotted out together.
Katie and Tom were seen eating lunch together on Saturday, March 19, in photos posted by TMZ. They went to the Studio City restaurant Mister O's and were seated across from each other on the back patio. Eyewitnesses reported that Katie and Tom were there for quite a while. However, judging by the photos, as well as TMZ's sources, this shared meal did not necessarily indicate that they're rethinking the divorce. Photos showed the estranged spouses constantly looking at their phones rather than each other. Both were dressed casually and kept their sunglasses on. Katie, who is prioritizing her happiness, wore a striped cardigan, while Tom wore sweatpants. They were both pictured with sullen expressions. Onlookers also reported that there were no signs of lingering affection or couple-like behavior. The Bravo stars were reportedly at the restaurant for quite some time. They reportedly talked, but that was it in terms of interactions. The two were at a table tucked away, and none of the other restaurant-goers revealed if they overheard the conversation.
While discussing the decision to separate on her podcast You're Gonna Love Me, Katie admitted they were still sharing a house for the time being. The 35-year-old insisted there wasn't a dramatic blow-up and that the split wasn't a sudden decision. Instead, the former beauty blogger revealed that things were building up for months. In addition to their long-running issues, the couple had trouble trying to conceive a baby. Katie revealed she had an abortion early in their relationship. In a sign that their family planning was not meant to be, she also said that if she had a baby back then, she would've been a single mom.
Through her statements about the divorce, Katie claimed to be on cordial terms with her 39-year-old ex. In fact, many fans think Katie and Tom will be better as friends. The low-key nature of their lunch together appears to back up these claims. Likewise, both posted about sharing this lunch together on social media. The Vanderpump Rules stars also share the same circle of friends, mostly made up of current and former co-stars.
It's unclear whether or not the estranged spouses will have to continue as co-stars. Vanderpump Rules has yet to be renewed for season 10. If the show does come back, things will be quite different than they were in season 9. Katie and Tom weren't the only major breakup. Lala Kent had a much more dramatic split from Randall Emmett. Plus, Raquel Leviss and James Kennedy ended their engagement, and James quickly moved on. Fans will have to wait and see if Katie or Tom find new love that fast.
