The Taliban are rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s bid to retake Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. The U.S. abandoned the sprawling military facility four years ago following its chaotic withdrawal from the country after decades of war. The Taliban’s chief spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, on Sunday rejected Trump’s assertion and urged the U.S. to adopt a policy of “realism and rationality.” It is unclear what conversations the U.S. has had with authorities about returning to Afghanistan. But Trump hinted that the Taliban could be open to allowing the U.S. military to return.
