Singapore’s government has announced that scammers will face mandatory caning of up to 24 strokes starting December 30. The change, passed by Parliament last month, aims to deter surging fraud cases. The Home Affairs Ministry says the enhanced punishment will ensure criminal laws remain effective and fair. Scammers, including recruiters and syndicate members, face six to 24 strokes. Those providing personal details for scam-related money laundering could also face up to 12 strokes. Authorities said scams made up 60% of reported crime in the past five years. Judicial caning is already used for serious crimes like robbery and sexual offenses.
