Authorities say an avalanche in California's Sierra Nevada buried a snowmobiler in snow and killed him. Rescuers responded after a 911 call Monday around 2:20 p.m. reported a possible avalanche. It unfolded among a group of snowmobilers near Johnson Peak and Castle Peak in Truckee. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said the snowmobiler was initially reported missing. He was found buried under the snow several minutes later. Fellow recreationists found him. He didn’t survive despite lifesaving efforts. The sheriff’s office said more avalanches could occur and recommended that people avoid the area.
