Ted Koerner feared he might never see his aging golden retriever, Daisy Mae, playing in their backyard again after a wildfire destroyed his home. A year ago, Koerner fled with Daisy Mae as the Eaton Fire raged toward Altadena, California. Koerner raced to rebuild his home, liquidating retirement funds to hire contractors quickly. His biggest fear was losing Daisy Mae before he could get through a daunting and costly rebuilding process. Construction finished just before Thanksgiving, making his home one of the first rebuilt in the area.
