European governments have criticize U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of a 10% tariff on eight countries for opposing American control of Greenland. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland are on the list. The tariffs are said to be retaliation for European troops deployed to Greenland in response to Trump's call for Arctic security. Denmark's foreign minister expressed surprise, while Norway's prime minister dismissed the threat. Sweden and France reaffirmed Greenland's sovereignty, and Germany coordinated with European partners. The UK, Netherlands, and Finland condemned the tariffs as inappropriate and harmful to alliances.
