Dog sled culture in northern Greenland is at risk as climate change is causing the ice and snow to melt. In January, temperatures in the town of Ilulissat should be well below freezing but this year there was no snow and ice. Instead of gliding over snow and ice, sled dog champion Jørgen Kristensen's sled bounced over earth and rock. What happens in this part of Greenland matters as the nearby glacier is one of the most active in the world. UNESCO and NASA say it is retreating quickly and contributing to rising sea levels. Locals think the retreating ice is part of the reason why U.S. President Donald Trump is interested in their Arctic island. They think he wants to access to Greenland's critical minerals.
