Venezuela’s National Assembly is debating an amnesty bill that could free hundreds held for political reasons. On Thursday, lawmakers are resuming talks after pausing last week over who qualifies for relief. The bill covers opposition members, activists, journalists and others targeted over decades. It also considers people who fled or went into hiding to avoid arrest. The proposal comes weeks after the U.S. military captured then-President Nicolás Maduro on Jan. 3. Authorities have long denied that political prisoners exist, but the bill suggests otherwise. Rights groups count more than 600 detainees. Families wait outside jails and some started a hunger strike on Saturday.
