Hungary’s MOL Group energy company said on Monday they have signed a preliminary agreement to buy a 56.15% stake in Serbia’s Russia-owned main oil supplier that has been sanctioned by the United States. MOL Group said in a statement that a “binding Heads of Agreement with Gazprom Neft” will need the approval of the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control before it can be completed. Syrian government forces and Kurdish fighters have clashed around two prisons i housing members of the Islamic State group in Syria’s northeast. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces report several of its fighters have been killed and over a dozen wounded. The fighting follows recent clashes where the SDF ceded areas to the Syrian army. The SDF controls over a dozen prisons holding around 9,000 IS members. The army says some detainees escaped from Shaddadi Prison, leading to a curfew. The SDF confirmed losing control of the prison. The death toll from suspected gang attacks on Guatemalan police has risen to nine as Guatemalans awoke to heavier security and curtailed rights after President Bernardo Arévalo declared a state of emergency. The violence began Saturday when inmates took control of three prisons, demanding privileges. Suspected gang members then attacked police across the capital. Gunmen have abducted more than 150 worshippers in simultaneous attacks on three churches in northwest Nigeria. The attack occurred on Sunday in Kurmin Wali, Kaduna state, during services at the Evangelical Church Winning All, a Cherubim and Seraphim church, and a Catholic church. A state lawmaker reported that 168 people remain missing. Police in Kaduna state have not commented, and no group has claimed responsibility. An explosion in downtown Kabul on Monday has killed at least seven people and wounded about a dozen more, according to police and an Italian charity. The blast occurred in a Chinese restaurant in the Shahr-e-Naw district. The restaurant was jointly owned by an Afghan man, a Chinese national and his wife. The Italian charity EMERGENCY said its surgical center received 20 people from the blast, including seven who were already dead. Those injured included four women and a child. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
