Sarah Jessica Parker Reveals the Surprising A-Lister She Dated Before Matthew Broderick
Well, we didn’t have this on our 2025 Bingo card — Sarah Jessica Parker confirming a long-standing rumor about her dating life in the early 1990s.
The 60-year-old actress spilled the tea to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on July 13, and our mouths were on the floor. Cohen wanted to know if the story about her dating her Honeymoon in Vegas co-star Nicolas Cage was true.
Her reply? “Um, yes, I did,” Parker said, per Us Weekly. “Yes, I did.”
Cohen quipped, “Oh, wow. Oh, we got some talking to do.”
Of course, the New York besties likely had a gossip session after the show wrapped, so fans didn’t get to hear any delicious details about Parker’s time with Cage. The former duo collaborated in 1991 on the romantic comedy, which also featured the late James Caan.
The plot of the film is a little wacky for 2025 standards, but it revolves around a commitment-phobic and penniless private investigator (Cage), who loses a substantial fortune in Vegas to a professional gambler (Caan). Jack uses his fiancée (Parker) as collateral to the gambler for a weekend getaway until he can pay him back.
The late critic Roger Ebert had something to say about the film when he reviewed it in 1992, and it might just make you add it to your Netflix queue.
“Nicolas Cage is one of those actors some people like and others find excessive,” Ebert wrote. “I tend to like him, especially when he is consumed by love, as he was in Moonstruck and is again here. He sweats and squirms in the key scene, as he tries to explain to Parker that, yes, he loves her, but no, he can’t pay his poker losses, and so, yes, maybe she should play along with this sinister gambler’s weird obsession.”
Parker’s fling with Cage appeared to be short-lived, though. She eventually met her future husband, Matthew Broderick, in November 1991. By the time Honeymoon in Vegas rolled around in theaters, Parker was in love with the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star. They married in May 1997 and share three children: son James, 22, and twin daughters Tabitha and Marion, 13.
Still, Cage might have been the last guy Parker dated before settling down with Broderick.
