Khloé Kardashian Claps Back at People Who Shame Her for Having a Nanny: ‘We’re All Blessed’
Khloé Kardashian needs to get something of her chest: she has nannies for her two kids, and she is proud of it! The reality TV star and business owner is tired of being shamed for hiring people to watch her two kids, True, 7, and Tatum, 2, who she shares with ex Tristan Thompson. She just clapped back at the hate and judgement she received, and the whole thing leaves an icky taste in our mouths.
The Kardashians star chatted about parenting in today’s episode of Khloé in Wonder Land, where she called out the haters.
“People that talk s— about nannies, we all have help in some capacity,” Kardashian said, per PEOPLE. “You can call it daycare, you can call it a school, you can call it in-laws, your mother, sister, whoever. A babysitter.”
“For some reason, the term ‘babysitter’ people find way less offensive than a nanny. I don’t know why. We’re all blessed, and it takes a village to raise a family,” she continued. “I do not understand the shame that people give to other people for having people help them with their kids. There is no shame in that.”
I understand where she’s coming from. If a nanny helps her while she goes on a work trip or any other time, why are people so much more judgmental than if she put her kids in school or daycare and worked a 9-5? Other people agreed, with one person commenting on YouTube, “I love what you said about nanny’s!! Girl yes people get in an uproar and what you said was a little dose of reality! Cuz we all use help and are truly grateful for it!”
Someone else wrote, “Someone else said, “I with Khloe on babysitting/nanny. I had to put my son in daycare [since] 18 months. I was made to feel bad by his father’s family. I mean [viciously]. Today He’s the prince and I’m his great mother.”
Still, the fact that the Good American founder seemed to be implying that everyone has a village and is blessed can come across the wrong way for people who genuinely do not. Motherhood feels more isolating than ever, with the cost of childcare rising exponentially.
In fact, a new report by Credit Karma found that 39 percent of parents with at least one child attending school are unable to afford back-to-school shopping, and 44 percent plan on taking on debt to get their kids’ necessities. More than half (54 percent) of parents are planning to sacrifice necessities like groceries to get their children’s school supplies. Parents with multiple children in school say back-to-school shopping is a major source of anxiety for them (62 percent). They are also changing how they parent, with 45 percent of parents admitting they can no longer put their kids in an after-school program, sport, or club this year, and 32 percent are considering cutting back their hours or changing their job situation to watch their kids because of these cuts.
We can barely afford all the pencils, markers, backpacks, and clothes are kids need for school — so it’s a little hard to feel sympathy for someone who struggles with motherhood but has multiple nannies on deck and never has to worry about finances.
At the same time, Kardashian has been getting hate for having nannies for years. Back in 2019, someone commented on paparazzi pictures of Kardashian who appeared to be out with a nanny and her daughter True. “Khloé acts like she can’t go anywhere without her nanny,” they wrote. “Nanny is in every pic and place she goes. She can mother on her own, we all do it! What a joke. She literally can’t go to the market, a party, or lunch without her nanny. WTF.”
Kardashian took notice and slammed the haters. “I can go anywhere and everywhere with whom I choose to,” she responded. “I choose to treat everybody like family that is in my house. I choose to invite whoever wants to come to fun outings. We all love and enjoy the farmers [sic] market and it’s so fun to go places and create memories together. I hope you have a happy and blessed day. I also hope that you are very kind to the ones that are kind to you. The ones that are not, probably need your kindness even more.”
On an episode of The Kardashians in 2024, Kardashian complained about solo parenting with Thompson out of town. “He’s a big help when he’s here,” she said in the episode. “And, you know, I don’t have nannies at night, which I might have to change or at least have someone be available sometimes.”
Kardashian added that she has no “live in” help right now, adding, “And I’m just so hands-on. It’s, like, cool half the time, but I make all of her lunches, I make her dinners, I do everything. I don’t let anyone else do it. Tristan has done it, but I’m so particular.”
People were unhappy that she was complaining, tweeting things like, “Khloe Kardashian said she was exhausted while raising her 2 kids without a live-in nanny. It’s extremely challenging for her to prepare her own children’s meals. It’s tiring for her to make sandwiches & cut up fruit for kids all by herself.”
In defense of Kardashian, raising kids is hard. And in the podcast today, she revealed that she is still very hands-on with her kids even when a nanny is around. She called herself “a control freak” who “micro-manage[s].” Kardashian shared that she pre-makes her kids’ lunches and snacks, labels everything, and checks the weather to lay out True’s uniforms. For Tatum, she leaves out the bedtime books that he likes the most, so the nannies know what to do.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Kardashian called motherhood “the hardest but best job in the world.” Whether you have a nanny or not, we can all agree with that!
