When TikTok comes together to obsess over a piece of furniture, you best believe my home decor-loving self is going to pay close attention. The Homebody modular couch has been making waves on social media, even earning a stamp of approval from makeup artist Patrick Starr, thanks to its effortlessly chic aesthetic and game-changing functionality, positioning itself as a more accessible alternative to the famous Restoration Hardware Cloud Couch that dominated social media for years.
The Homebody sofa combines Instagram-worthy style with real-world practicality that actually makes sense for how we live (especially for homes with kids and pets!). With fully washable covers, hypoallergenic down alternative filling, and reclining seats that look relaxed and sophisticated, the Homebody sofa is designed for families who want luxury without the stress. The modular design means you can customize it to fit your exact space, whether you’re working with a cozy apartment or a sprawling family room. For parents dealing with juice spills and pet hair, the easy-wash feature is nothing short of revolutionary.
This all sounds great, but how does the TikTok-famous sofa hold up in the real world? To find out, we put it through some vigorous tests, diving deep into everything from comfort and durability to some of the lesser-talked-about downsides you will want to consider before making such a big purchase.

What I Loved
Cleaning
I have two pets, one cat and one 150-pound Bernese mountain dog. As much as I love them, they kind of make owning nice furniture a nightmare. My dog is a year-round heavy shedder, and I am constantly battling fur and stains. My absolute favorite part of the Homebody couch is how easy it is to clean. In fact, the ability to clean was the main thing I was looking for when looking for a new sofa, and the Homebody couch definitely delivers. Each cushion cover can easily be removed and washed. I’ve had to clean countless muddy paw stains and fur balls, and the couch still looks brand new.
The linen and performance fabrics are specifically designed for spot cleaning and liquid spills bead up and can easily be blotted off. It really doesn’t get easier when it comes to cleaning.
Aesthetic
Homebody’s modular would look stunning in any home. Whether you’re more Scandinavian minimalist or farmhouse maximalist, the couch seamlessly blends with any aesthetic.
Comfort
The zero gravity reclining seats are one top notch. I have a smaller living room, so the wall-hugging 0″ reclining seats are a game-changer. I’ve never been able to have reclining seats in a small space, and I truly love having this option for cozy movie nights or late-night reading.
Built-in chargers
My outlets are all hidden behind the couch, so before this sofa came along, I was pretty much unable to charge my phone in my living room. The Homebody couch has secret chargers built into the sides of the seats, and it’s more convenient than I ever could have imagined.
Things to consider before purchasing
Odor
When my Homebody couch first arrived, it had a pretty pungent (almost kind of chemical) odor. It started to lessen after a few days, but you could still definitely smell it when you walked into the living room. I tried Febreze, but that didn’t help much. I washed all of the cushion covers, but the smell seemed to be coming from the frame of the couch itself. After seeing some TikToks about how well hypochlorous acid removes odors, I purchased some from Amazon, and this did the trick! I did have to spray the couch daily for about two weeks to fully get the odor out, but now it’s completely odor-free.
Narrow Seats
If you are sitting upright, this couch is super comfy (especially in zero gravity mode). If you prefer to lie down on your couch or if you want to use it as a place for extra guests to crash, this might not be the option for you. The seats are narrower than most couches I’ve owned or tested, and you almost feel like you are going to roll off if you lie horizontally. This wasn’t a deal breaker for me as I rarely use it for lying down, but it is something to consider if you’re more of a deep-seated lover.
Headrests and Cushions
The headrests aren’t connected to the couch (see picture below), so they tend to roll forward quite a bit. However, it’s easy to fix and reposition them.
The cushions are ridiculously comfy (and they come with a bunch of additional inserts so you can adjust their fullness!), but I’ve noticed I need to fluff them up every day or so. Again, not a deal breaker, but there is a little more maintenance involved compared to other couches.
Hard Sections
If you’re sitting directly in the center of a cushion, you’ll be as comfy as can be. But if you try sitting in between the cushions, you can definitely feel the hard frame underneath. It’s not a huge deal because you can easily adjust where you sit, but again, in the name of an honest review, it is worth mentioning.
Overall
The Homebody modular couch lives up to much of its TikTok hype, particularly excelling as a family-friendly and pet-friendly furniture option that doesn’t sacrifice style for practicality. This sofa genuinely offers impressive functionality at a much more accessible price point than the popular Cloud Couch.
Where it truly shines is in its cleaning capabilities and thoughtful design features. For households with pets or kids, the fully washable covers and stain-resistant fabrics are game-changing. The zero-gravity reclining seats that require no wall clearance solve a real problem for smaller living spaces, while built-in charging ports add modern convenience that lots of competitors lack.
As much as I love it, there are a few drawbacks that prevent it from being a universal recommendation. The initial chemical odor required significant time and effort to remove, and the narrow seat design limits how the couch can be used.
The bottom line: The Homebody couch is an excellent choice for families prioritizing easy maintenance and space-efficient reclining capabilities. It’s particularly well-suited for those who primarily use their couch for upright sitting and watching TV. While not perfect, it successfully delivers on the selling points that mattered the most to me and represents solid value in the family-friendly furniture category.
