Jack Osbourne Hinted at Issues With Sister Aimee Before Dad's Funeral: 'We're Not Close at All'
Jack Osbourne hinted at divisions in his relationship with his older sister, Aimee, before Ozzy Osbourne’s death, revealing, “We’re not close at all.”
The 39-year-old star, who is the youngest child of the late Black Sabbath rocker and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, appeared in a July 22 episode of the Disrespectfully podcast and opened up about his oldest sister’s decision to stay out of the family’s 2000s MTV reality TV show, The Osbournes.
“Back then she really wanted to be a musician, and the kind of musician she wanted to be was like a Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, like this kind of obscure, mysterious, moody [artist],” Jack said of now-41-year-old Aimee, who was 16 when she moved out of home to avoid appearing on the show. “And she deemed doing a show on MTV as low-hanging fruit. She was like, ‘I’m not going to be seen riding coattails,’ kind of thing. That’s how she perceived it.”
“Once the show was hugely successful, I think she was kind of like, ‘Well, I can’t now come on because I don’t want to be seen even more as jumping on the bandwagon.’ And so she just kind of dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure,” added Jack, who is also a younger brother of Kelly Osbourne.
Jack admitted that he’d never spoken to Aimee about how she feels about her decision to stay out of the public eye.
“I’ve never had the conversation with her, we’re not close at all. We don’t have a great relationship, she’ll be the first to tell you that, so it’s no secret,” he said.
“I’ve never asked her outright, ‘Do you regret it?’ I think there must be a level of like, ‘Hey, my life would have probably been different than what it is if I’d done that,’ so I don’t know, I think I would feel like I would have regretted it,” he said.
Jack’s sister, Kelly, has also opened up about not having a good relationship with Aimee, who is now a musician under the band name ARO. “We don’t talk,” she said during a 2021 appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert, “We’re just really different. She doesn’t understand me and I don’t understand her.”
Aimee opened up about her choice not to appear on The Osbournes in 2015. “Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television?” she told The Independent. “I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable.”
Ozzy, who was also a father to three children from his first marriage, died on July 22. The family hosted a public funeral procession on July 31, followed by a private service in Birmingham, England.
