'The Kelly Clarkson Show' Faces a New Fate After the Singer’s Hiatus Amid Ex-Husband’s Cancer Battle
The fate of Kelly Clarkson’s talk show has a new update after the singer’s hiatus amid her late ex-husband’s cancer battle.
After months of speculation surrounding the future of The Kelly Clarkson Show amid the 43-year-old’s indefinite absence from the hosting chair, TMZ reports that new episodes featuring Clarkson as host will air in September.
Clarkson temporarily, and abruptly, stepped away from hosting the show in February and March without explanation, leaving a string of celebrity guest hosts, including Simu Liu, Roy Woods Jr. and Brooke Shields, to take over.
However, we now know that Clarkson’s absence was due to her ex’s deteriorating health before his death was announced on August 7. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” representatives for the talent manager revealed in a statement to People. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The announcement came a day after Clarkson revealed that she postponed her Las Vegas residency to spend time with her and Blackstock’s children, daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9, amid his failing health.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” Clarkson wrote in a statement.
Clarkson was married to Blackstock from 2013 until 2020, when a contentious divorce battle began between the two, which ended in 2022. Clarkson also sued Blackstock for unlawful work as her talent manager. That case was finalized in 2023 with Blackstock being ordered to pay her $2.6 million.
However, insiders say Clarkson rallied behind her ex in his final days. “Even though they went through an acrimonious divorce, Kelly made a conscious decision to protect Brandon’s privacy until the very end for the sake of their family,” a source shared. “He’d been sick for a while, but his health really took a turn for the worse earlier this year. That’s why she was MIA from her talk show.”
