Sean Avery Finally Addresses Those Viral Mary-Kate Olsen Romance Rumors

In case you forgot, back on Memorial Day weekend 2024, fans snapped photos of Mary-Kate Olsen hanging out with her former flame Sean Avery, per pics from DeuxMoi via DailyMail; and it instantly sparked romance rumors. But now, in Aug 2025, one of them is telling the truth about the rumors.

In a recent interview with DailyMail, Avery finally spilled the beans on those dating rumors and the truth behind them.

He said, “We’ve been friends for 20 years. That’s a long time relationship. We were, like, kids in New York growing up together.”

“That’s the beauty of social media now and the algorithm. And I embrace all of that because anything that kicked that algo, you got to get that algorithm going. That’s the name of the game,” he said, answering that he basically laughed off the rumors. “Of course people are always going to speculate, especially with her. She’s an icon.”

Now, this totally checks out because soon after those pics became public, sources told People that, despite persistent rumors, the pair were just close pals. They said, “Mary Kate and Sean have known one another for years. They have been in the same social circles in NYC and share many mutual friends. They spend their summers in the Hamptons, and hang out with the same crowds.”

For those who don’t know, Avery and Mary-Kate were briefly linked in 2007, when she was around 20/21 and he was around 26/27; and have been friends throughout the years. And they’ve been pals throughout the years, despite his controversies.
