Cheryl Hines is used to the tabloid headlines of Hollywood, but she got thrown to the sharks in Washington, D.C., in October 2024 when New York Magazine‘s Sept. 19, 2024, “Note to Our Readers” set off a firestorm of publicity.
According to the magazine, their Washington correspondent, Olivia Nuzzi, had a “personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine’s standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures.” That person turned out to be Hines’ husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is now the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Donald Trump administration.
Now, on the heels of her upcoming memoir, Unscripted, Hines is breaking her silence on RFK Jr.’s alleged “sexting” affair to The Wall Street Journal. Well, sort of — it’s an indirect response to her husband’s behavior and how they are moving forward.
“I don’t think there’s any point to going through every rumor and headline to try to defend or explain it,” Hines told the media outlet while later adding, “Bobby and I talk about everything, so that’s how we move through everything, and we’re really good friends, and we trust each other.”
Hines seemingly brushed off the issue, which was a similar response to how RFK Jr. handled the situation last September. His representative told Newsweek in September 2024: “Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece.”
Still, sources close to the couple noted that, in addition to the Nuzzi scandal, RFK Jr.’s decision to align with Donald Trump also tested their marriage. “The guy is a serial philanderer, and she knew that coming in,” a Page Six insider alleged in October 2024. “She knew she was getting in with a Kennedy who are known for being infamous womanizers, but she never signed up to be a member of Trump World!”
Even though there were divorce rumors last fall, Hines and RFK Jr. appear to be looking toward the future.
“I do talk about experiences, people, press, rumors,” Hines said of her upcoming memoir and marriage to The Wall Street Journal. “One would deduce that we love each other and are still married and whatever we’ve been through is behind us.”
