Meghan Markle's Christmas Special Sparks Royal Comparisons to Kate Middleton
Meghan Markle’s new first-look deal with Netflix not only includes a second season of With Love, Meghan, but it also adds a Christmas special into the mix. Now, royal critics are comparing the Duchess of Sussex’s holiday move to Kate Middleton.
With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration will arrive in December, and Archewell Productions, via People, described it as “a magical holiday celebration.” The press release continued, “Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs – with simple how-tos to follow at home. It’s a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy.”
HELLO! magazine’s royal correspondent Danielle Stacey was positive about the development, noting, “It will be lovely to hopefully hear from the Duchess herself about how she and Harry have blended their family traditions in Montecito. Particularly, as Meghan has previously spoken about her first Christmas in Sandringham, describing it as ‘amazing’ and there being ‘constant movement and energy and fun.'”
Of course, the naysayers are chiming in with comparisons to Kate’s annual Together at Christmas carol service. One account on X complained, “Is anyone else curious as to how Meghan Markle plans to teach us how to have the perfect family Christmas, when she has severed all ties with her family, and severed all ties with Harry’s family?” Another royal fan wrote, “Meghan Markle is matched against Kate Middleton for the Christmas special.”
Of course, one social media user made a great point, noting that “Christmas does not belong to anyone.” Both women can celebrate the holiday with their fans — there is plenty of room for both specials to celebrate the holiday season.
Anyone who has watched the Princess of Wales’ concert knows that music is the key focus of her celebration, including her piano skills. On Netflix, Meghan will be cooking and decorating up a storm to get people ready for the holiday season. Two different specials, two different outcomes.
Let both Meghan and Kate enjoy the festive season in peace without trying to pit them against each other over TV specials.
