Goldie Hawn’s Granddaughter Rio Had the Cutest Reaction to Her Dad’s Serenade & Fans Are ‘Speechless'
While kids are playful and cute, pre-teens are a mixed bag of emotions (and hormones). One minute, they’re laughing with their parents, and the next, just breathing embarrasses them. Most parents know to expect eye-rolls and attitude at least some of the time, which is why Goldie Hawn’s granddaughter Rio, 12, just left fans “speechless.” The way the she reacted to her dad Oliver Hudson’s serenade proves she is the picture of grace.
Rio celebrated a big milestone recently: starting middle school! In honor of that, her dad drove her to school, surprising her with an original song, which he recorded for Instagram.
“I can’t believe it’s National Dogs Day,” Rio tells her dad from the backseat of the car. He cheekily replies, “You know what else it is? It’s sixth grade!” he says, bursting into song at the last bit.
Hudson croons, “It’s the first day of sixth grade!” as Rio turns to look at him. She just smiles, turning to look out the window and then back at her dad as he continues singing a song about starting middle school. She doesn’t cringe or roll her eyes once — Rio just smiles and laughs at her dad like she’s too cool to be embarrassed, and I love that for her. Even when he starts singing about “new boys” in sixth grade, she still stays calm.
At the end, she quips, “Get rid of the mustache!” It’s pure cinema.
In the comments, fans were in awe of Rio’s mature reaction. “She’s so sweetly tolerant of it all! (…minus the mustache),” one person wrote. Another said, “I love how she just giggles at dad! So sweet! ????”
“I’m speechless ????- your daughter is really sweet !! Not even a dirty look – or an eye roll,” someone else commented.
Rio, who looks just like her grandma and her aunt Kate Hudson with the same blonde hair and sparkling smile, wants to be an actress one day. In an interview with Access Hollywood last month, the Oscar winner shared, “I don’t think we have a choice, frankly,” about Rio joining the family business. “Same with Kate. I didn’t have a choice, and I think this one, we don’t have a choice.”
Oliver, who shares Rio and sons Wilder, 17, and Bodhi, 15, with wife Erinn Bartlett, added, “We’re going to go slow. She wants it, she’s an amazing dancer, she loves to perform, it’s in her genes. We’re going to do plays first.”
With the way she sparkles on camera already, we know Rio will be a star!
