Prince Harry and King Charles III’s relationship appears to be on the road to recovery, but there’s one royal who may never forgive him— and it’s not Prince William.
It is Queen Camilla, who is reportedly not pleased with her husband’s reconciliation with his youngest son, according to The Times. A palace insider told the media outlet, “He has been extremely unkind to her in print and in word, and she doesn’t forgive easily.”
And one of Charles’ buddies added, “The royal family makes elephants look like they have short memories.”
For those royal fans who are not sure why Camilla has beef with the Duke of Sussex, let’s dial it back to January 2023 when he published his memoir, Spare. “[Camilla] was the villain, she was the third person in the marriage,” Harry told 60 Minutes in an interview ahead of the book’s publication, while referencing Princess Diana‘s Panorama interview where his late mother spilled the tea on the affair. Harry believed that Camilla knew she had to “rehabilitate her image.”
In Spare, Harry wrote, “I even wanted Camilla to be happy, maybe she would be less dangerous if she was happy.”
He explained to Anderson Cooper during the interview what he meant by that sent by sentence.
“Because of the need for her to rehabilitate her image,” he explained. “That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press, and there was open willingness on both sides to trade of information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her on the way to being Queen Consort, there were going to be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”
The Duke of Sussex believed that Camilla was selling out his wife, Meghan Markle, to make herself look better. By May 2023, royal author Christopher Andersen was putting some of the rift blame squarely on the queen’s shoulders.
“The queen has used this nonsensical ‘But they’re no longer working royals’ argument to further alienate the king from his second son,” Andersen claimed to Fox News Digital. “I think every time the king considers handing Harry an olive branch, Camilla makes sure Charles is reminded of all the terrible things written about her in Spare.”
Charles, who Andersen said “hates being caught in the middle,” is finally stepping up to welcome Harry back into the fold. Camilla may not like it, but it’s time for the feud to end.
