Kate Middleton's Diplomatic Smile Reportedly Hid a Deep 'Humiliation' Tied to Donald Trump

Kate Middleton was a total pro this week for Donald Trump’s state visit to the U.K., but it might have been an uncomfortable series of events for her.

The Princess of Wales had to listen to his constant comments about her appearance, including his banquet speech. “So radiant, so healthy and so beautiful,” the U.S president said. While it is, of course, complimentary, it’s also a weird thing to say in front of her husband, Prince William, and his wife, Melania Trump. That wasn’t the only issue Kate reportedly faced, though.

A 2012 controversy involving Donald Trump is also an issue. Royal fans will remember when Kate was photographed without her consent while sunbathing topless during a holiday in France. The snapshots were published in Closer magazine, and she was “mortified,” per a NewsNation source.

Naturally, the then-real estate mogul had something to say about her on Twitter. “Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on, Kate,” he wrote 13 years ago. That memory still haunts the Princess of Wales and over a decade later, she was forced to sit next to him at the royal dinner.

Still, Kate put country ahead of her feelings. ”Duty is always first for Catherine and the family,” the insider continued. “Personal feelings or humiliations can be put aside for the good of the country.” Kate just had to “suck it up.”

It does seem unfair that the Princess of Wales was put in that position to begin with. She’s reportedly feeling vulnerable after her cancer treatment last year and the recent controversy over her blonde hair was just one recent example.

“This has been a very tough time for Kate,” a palace insider told Radar Online. “She returned from the summer prepared to face the cameras again, but the harshness of the remarks really unsettled her. The suggestion that her hair was tied to her illness struck her particularly hard.” She’s just looking for support, but instead, she’s been “badly shaken” by all of the recent commentary.

Even though Kate is an expert at her soft diplomacy role as a royal, it’s still unfair to put her in such an awkward position with Donald Trump.
