Who Does Mel Owens Pick on The Golden Bachelor?
Mel Owens picks Peg Munson as his winner in The Golden Bachelor finale. Mel proposes to the 62-year-old retired firefighter and bomb tech from Las Vegas in the finale, leaving Cindy single.
The Golden Bachelor was filmed between July and September 2025, which means that Mel proposed to Peg two months ago.
Mel and Peg’s engagement was confirmed by The Sun on November 5 and Bachelor Nation’s go-to source for intel, Reality Steve, on October 24.
“Execs were terrified he wouldn’t get down on one knee and convinced throughout most of the season it was looking like he wouldn’t,” a source told The Sun of Mel’s proposal to Peg. “It was a huge relief he ended up going through with it. Again, everyone is thrilled, if not even surprised, behind the scenes.”
For his part, Reality Steve revealed the spoiler on October 24 after previously expressing uncertainty about whether he would get any insider intel for Mel’s season.
“Hopefully, at some point, I’ll get spoilers. Right now, I have none,” Steve said during the September 23 episode of his pod. “I couldn’t tell you where they went for Final Rose ceremony. I can’t tell you who the final three are.”
He explained that this is a change from the previous season of The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette, for which we knew spoilers at this point. He said, “And for the first two seasons of Golden Bachelor and Golden Bachelorette, I had all that info and you knew it, at least for Gerry’s season, you knew who the final two were.”
Steve, who has been critical of Mel over comments the season lead made on a podcast about desiring women under the age of 60, even reported that ABC was considering replacing him earlier in the summer, added that he’s keeping his coverage of The Golden Bachelor to a minimum this season.
“I’ve got nothing. I got nothing right now. If I did, I would tell you, but, the days of me coming on the next day after a Golden Bachelorette or a Golden Bachelor and breaking down what we saw on the episode, certainly not gonna be writing anything about it,” he shared. “The coverage of Golden Bachelor is gonna be very, very minimal from me, just because I don’t care, and that’s my stance.”
What Has Mel Said About Who He Picks?
Mel gave details about who he picks to Us Weekly in an October 22 interview, saying that he was leaning “a little bit more toward one person than the other, so I went with my gut.”
“We go to Antigua. I’ve never been there. I’ve been to islands, but I’ve never been there. But whoever scouted it out and set it up and got things prepared, just the little details, it’s just so good,” he said of the finale episode. “It’s really emotional. And you’re a little nervous, but it’s so brilliant… It’s so good, you won’t believe it.”
Does Mel Get Engaged In The Golden Bachelor?
Mel allegedly get engaged to Peg in the finale episode, much to the satisfaction of producers who worried that he wouldn’t get down on one knee.
“Producers doubted if Mel was going to land the plane and pull through at the beginning,” a source told The Sun. “But he really turned things around at the end and made this season work for him. They weren’t sure if he was going to propose and he wasn’t even sure if he was going to.”
