Kate Hudson’s Fiery Red Palm Springs Gown Makes the Naked Dress Trend Feel Surprisingly Wearable
The naked dress trend keeps getting louder — sheerer panels, bigger cutouts, more “is that actually there?” engineering — and Kate Hudson arrived in Palm Springs with a version that played the game without turning the night into a wardrobe-stress exercise.
At the Palm Springs International Film Awards on Jan. 3, Hudson wore a Georges Chakra Fall 2025 Couture gown in a fiery red lattice of beading that read sheer at first glance, then revealed a skin-toned underlayer doing the heavy lifting. A deep plunge ran down the center front, while the open-grid texture let the dress signal “naked dress” without asking for double-sided tape discourse.
The construction did the illusion work: the red beadwork formed a consistent net pattern across the bodice and skirt, and the nude base created a clean, barely-there line underneath it. The look also included a dramatic velvet bow at the hip and a long, trailing panel that moved like an old-school red-carpet train — dramatic, but still tidy.
The night doubled as an awards-season moment: the festival announced Hudson as the recipient of the Icon Award for her performance in Focus Features’ Song Sung Blue, with festival chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi praising her “warmth, vulnerability, and musical confidence” in the role.
It’s also the same film that’s carried some offscreen noise. Michael “Mike” Sardina Jr., the son of the real-life subject portrayed in the movie, has criticized the project and called the film “a lie,” while weighing legal action and describing a family split around the rollout.
Hudson, meanwhile, has spoken candidly about taking creative swings in this chapter of her life — including the moment she decided to pursue music. “In COVID, it really was like, ‘God, if I die, I feel like I’ve left things on the table,’” she said on Variety’s Actors on Actors last June, describing the push to stop waiting for the “right” time.
