George & Amal Clooney Reportedly ‘Leading Separate Lives’ as Sources Predict a ‘Divorce Could Soon Be on the Way’—’From the Outside It Looks Idyllic’
Is there trouble in paradise for George and Amal Clooney? A new report from RadarOnline indicates that there’s a secret “separation” agreement between the couple, which could lead to problems later down the line.
“They are committed parents and remain respectful partners, but they are no longer glued to each other by any means,” a source told the gossip site. “Amal’s work and priorities are rooted in Europe, while George still orbits L.A. professionally. Splitting time is how they make that work.”
The couple had recently made the move to France, where they were granted French citizenship. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he explained that he’s not abandoning his roots in LA. “I’ve been there in that house for 30 years, and it was time to move,” he said. “We got a place about four years ago in France, and we spent a good amount of time there, enjoying it.”
He gushed about living in the European country as a celebrity. “There’s an anonymity living there,” the actor said. “That’s good for the kids. But L.A.’s still a big part of home for me too because it’s where I found success. It’s where I made all my friends. I know every back street. I know all the shortcuts.”
However, sources claim that there’s some underlying tension with the move. “From the outside it looks idyllic, farms, privacy, multiple homes, but the reality is George and Amal are often in different places, focused on different worlds.” Amal’s job as a human rights lawyer plants her roots in Europe, while George is still focusing on his acting career.
“That’s why people close to them describe it as leading separate lives, and a divorce could soon be on the way that will see George split his life between America and France.”
George told the LA Times that living on a farm was very beneficial for their twins, Alexander and Ella, 8, as they are growing up. “But now, for them, it’s like, they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life (in Los Angeles). France, they kind of don’t give a s—t about fame.”
However, another source says that the mindset won’t lead them to a divorce at all. “This isn’t about a dramatic split,” the source said. “It’s about two powerful people choosing autonomy, even within a marriage.”
The couple recently walked the Golden Globes red carpet together on Jan. 11. The actor was nominated for his role in Jay Kelly for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and he also presented the Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama with Ocean’s Eleven costar Don Cheadle. George Clooney introduced himself in French saying “Bonsoir, mes amis. C’est un honneur d’être ici,” which means “Hello friends, it’s an honor to be here.”
The greeting was also a sly shade towards President Donald Trump, who wrote on his social media Truth Social that it was “good news” that the Clooneys had “officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden.”
Though the reports of their marriage emerged, George Clooney went on the record to say that he’s never had an argument with his wife. “We have kids. I didn’t want to have kids. Everything changed because I met this incredible person,” George told the newspaper. “I’m in a much different place in life. I’m much more secure, and I am also less in the mood to win arguments. When you’re young, you’re trying to win everything.”
“I’m not conceding. But nice try. You’re going to get me in trouble with my wife,” he added with a laugh.
