Kim Kardashian Fires Back at Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Photo Controversy: ‘Crazy and Ridiculous’
Remember the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle photo scandal after they attended Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party in November? Well, Kim Kardashian is finally spilling the tea on what happened to those Instagram snapshots with the royals.
Kim downplayed the event with her sister, Khloé Kardashian, on the January 28 episode of the Khloé in Wonderland podcast, describing the “photogate” incident as “really innocent.”
“Mom and Meghan have been friends for some years now. And they have a really sweet relationship,” explained the SKIMS founder. “We’re all communicating about what we’re going to post. We’re never ones to post without permission… It’s not who we are.”
Khloé said the chosen pictures were “dignified” and that the entire family was “very respectful” about what they decided to post on social media.
“We were told that it was totally cool to post,” Kim continued. “And then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day, and they didn’t want to be seen at a party, even though it’s already up, you know… And then I think they realized, like, ‘Oh, this was so silly.’”
Remembrance Sunday is an important holiday for the British royal family because it honors fallen military members. It’s no surprise that Harry might have had second thoughts about the images, given that he’s a retired serviceman himself. But the Sussexes might have miscalculated the impact of having the photos removed from Kim and Kris’ Instagram carousel.
“I hated how that was received for everyone,” Kim noted. “It was just made into something that was so crazy and ridiculous that it just didn’t have to be.”
While it was originally reported by People that there were consent forms about photos at the party, and it was eventually clarified that “there were no consent forms.” And as Kim confirmed in the podcast, Harry and Meghan asked for the removal of the images. Still, the Daily Mail claimed that Kim was upset about the decision.
“Kim was like, ‘You’ve already been papped outside, and you were at the Baby2Baby event the same night being photographed like Meghan Trainor and Paris Hilton, so what’s the problem?’” an insider alleged. “Kim is pi**ed off.”
Brand expert Nick Ede told the U.K. outlet that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have to pick a lane when it comes to their image — are they a part of the entertainment industry or not?
“Meghan and Harry have a problem with admitting they are now part of Hollywood society, which is what she wanted, and they cannot, on one hand, use their star power for good, like going to charity events, and on the other hand, demand they are erased from events they don’t want to be seen to support,” he said.
But the Kardashians don’t seem to be losing any sleep over the issue; they’ve faced far greater controversies in their past. Harry and Meghan are likely forgiven for their social media misstep.
