Catherine O'Hara's Sons Found A Private Way To Follow In Their Famous Parents' Footsteps

The late Catherine O’Hara was a proud mom to two sons who were also successful in the entertainment industry, albeit in a less public way than their legendary mom.

The actress, whose death was announced on January 30, shared two adult sons with husband Bo Welch; 31-year-old Matthew and 29-year-old Luke. O’Hara and Welch, an Oscar-nominated production designer, kept their sons entirely out of the public eye during their youth, but that didn’t stop the boys from following in their parents footsteps.

In a 2020 interview with Vanity Fair, O’Hara revealed that both of her kids worked on Schitt’s Creek, in which she played the Emmy-winning role of Moira Rose. One of her sons was a set dresser on the show while the other worked in set construction.

During a February 2024 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, O’Hara mentioned that one of her sons works on The Last Of Us, while confirming that she will appear in season 2 of the show.

“My son’s a set dresser on the show,” she told host Andy Cohen, though didn’t identify which of her sons she was referring to.

Though her sons are all grown up now, O’Hara said that motherhood was always her number one priority when it came to choosing jobs. “I’ve always…In deciding what work I might get involved in for my whole working life, my family’s always come first,” O’Hara said in a 2019 conversation with 519 Magazine. “I have two sons, and when they were babies, I thought what’s the point? What’s the point of having children if I’m not going to be with them, so that was always number one consideration and always will be.”
