Which Legendary Movie Did Catherine O'Hara Meet Her Husband Bo Welch?

One of the sweetest marriages in Hollywood was between the late and great Catherine O’Hara and her husband, Bo Welch. While they were together for nearly 40 years, many may not know what their beautiful romance was like. “How many kids do they have?” “When was their wedding?” And the big one, “How did they meet?” Well, they met while O’Hara was playing one of her most iconic roles.

If you guessed Beetlejuice, you’d be right. Yes, the pair met on the set of the 1988 cult classic, with Welch working as part of the film’s production design. And turns out, director Tim Burton played Cupid for the pair after he discovered O’Hara’s crush on Welch.

He arranged a trip to a swap meet with the film’s art department. O’Hara even recalled to InStyle how it all went down, saying, “I was grouching to Tim Burton about how this guy was talking to me all the time and never asking me out. We had a break between filming in Los Angeles and on location, and in that time, Tim told Bo that he should ask me out.”

She added, “Our first day of shooting at the house was the day that Bo finally asked me out, so that’s what I see when I look at the scenes we shot there. Matchmaking Tim Burton!”

Then, she moved to LA after filming to be with him. They later tied the knot in April 25, 1992, and welcomed two sons named Matthew, born in 1994, and Luke, born in 1997.

O’Hara and Welch were together until her death at 71 on Jan 30, 2026.
