Ina Garten Revealed Her Most Popular Super Bowl Recipes & They're Made With Basic Kitchen Staples
No Super Bowl party is complete without the best snacks. Ina Garten knows that, which is why she always comes prepared with fan favorites that the crowd will eat up (whether they are there for the game or just to watch the funny commercials). The Barefoot Contessa just shared her favorite Super Bowl snack recipes, and we are saving these for the big game!
First up, her Pan-Fried Onion Dip! This easy-to-make recipe is much better than the storebought version. Start by slicing yellow inions into 1/8-inch-thick half-rounds, then sautéing them on the stove. You’ll add spices (including cayenne pepper for extra spice!), and cook until the onions are caramelized.
Once the onions are cooled, mix cream cheese, sour cream, and more in an electric mixer with a paddle attachment. You’ll add the onion mixture last and mix, garnishing with chives if you desire. Serve with your favorite potato chips (I personally love plain ruffles for this!) and make sure to have backup ingredients in case you need to whip it up again as the game goes on. It’s easy to see why Garten calls these “completely addictive.”
Next up, Garten’s delicious Jalapeño Margaritas! For these, you’ll need a small jalapeno pepper, which you’ll pierce in several places and cut in half before placing it in a liquid measuring cup. Pour 1 ½ cups of silver tequila in, cover with plastic wrap, and let sit at room temperature for 24 hours. (Pro tip: make extra if you’re having lots of guests or think anyone will want a refill!)
When you’re ready to serve, pour the tequila through a sieve into a pitcher to remove the jalapeno and any floating bits. Add Triple Sec, lime juice, and several other ingredients, stir, and pour into ice-filled cups with salt rims. You can shake first in a cocktail shaker with ice to make it even colder, or refrigerate for up to six hours before serving. The finished product are “spicy, citrusy, and so refreshing,” according to Garten.
