Day/night test matches (41 replies)
What is the point of day/night tests in this country?
Year in and year out English cricket fans buy up test match tickets months in advance. They get to the ground in time for start of play and make a day of it. The grounds are as good as full.
Surely people aren't going to say, "I know what, I'll go and watch half a day's play after work. In the dark and cold."
T20 games are one thing - you can see the whole match in one sitting. But the opportunity to watch one tenth of a test match after work doesn't seem very appealing to me.
Of course, it really hasn't got anything to do with getting more spectators into the ground - as with football and rugby union and league, it's a case of the Sky tail wagging the sport dog. And anyone who wants to enjoy the experience of watching high quality sport in the flesh can go and feck themselves.
