Birmingham City Reimagined (41 replies)
Could we inject an enormous amount of life into the football club, without spending a penny?
Is our current football clubs branding a liability in the 21st century with modern fans?
I'll break down what I mean.
The badge - We've had it since the 70s. Many of us love the badge because it's a unique shape, but it's completely unrelated to the city of Birmingham. In what way does a globe relate to our football club? We're not a global football club are we? Even though we could be one day. You could try an entirely new, sexy badge that features one or 2 nods to iconic monuments or landmarks in the city perhaps. A badge that looks more grand, like it belongs to one of the biggest football clubs in the country.
Our name - 'Birmingham City Football Club'. First of all we don't use the 'City' part, there's even 2 other bigger clubs called 'city' who also play in Blue. Another club but smaller, was sharing our stadium last season. Not to mention all the others. Could we swap the letter C and the word City for something else?
Our nickname - Blues. Hardly inspriring is it? You could call any team 'Blues' if they play in Blue. In fact loads of clubs already do. It's not much of an identity is it? It's not attractive to new supporters. Certainly not compared to The Gunners, The Red Devils, or The Foxes. The word 'Blues' has negative, dull and dreary connotations. You could change it to a nickname that better connects us to the city of Birmingham or something impressive inside the city, whatever that could be.
Have they served us well over the years? Could we become more attractive to new fans and potential owners if we try and rebrand and become more fashionable?
I love our club and would never want to change anything that goes against our roots and our spirit.
We'd still play in Blue, you could still call us 'Blues' for the rest of your life. But a better badge, different name and a unique nickname could inject a new positive energy into the football club.
Perhaps many of you agree but thought you'd get battered for saying something so contentious.
What do you all think?
