There were 3 or 4 players remonstrating with the ref too. One of them (I think it was Doyle) was going mad and pointing directly at Crookes to the ref but he just arrogantly waved him away and walked off. He’d been so atrocious by then I think they just gave up with him. Absolutely scandalous officiating. I was keeping tabs on all their bookings 2nd half hoping it would even up and as soon as Crookes made that foul and the ref got his card out we were all celebrating by me expecting Crookes to get the 2nd yellow. We could see the foul clearly from the upper Kop corner- how ALL the officials messed that up when they were so close, I’ll never know.
I watched Ref Watch on Sky today with Dermot Gallagher and Jay Bothroyd, they did a whole 10 minutes on the Blues game and every wrong decision they showed was against Blues. Gallagher said Ref had a shocker and got all decisions wrong bar the sending off but even that looks harsh on video evidence. There was no “physical contact”, “squaring up” or “getting in his face”. It was verbals for the 1st yellow then Robinson threw his arm in the air as he walked passed him and must have swore again. It’s obviously wrong and you can’t swear at refs but you see the exact same thing happen hundreds of times a season and no one ever gets sent off. If Robinson hadn’t have got filmed swearing his nut off playing against us in the cup and hadn’t got sent off against Cov- I think fans would be backing him over this. Unfortunately all those things together in a short space of time make him look a proper tit.
