Enough is Enough, Says Mayor Wheeler of Portland

We as a city are helping to feed and fire the hysteria, he said, including himself. We have allowed our tradition to be stolen by a few dozen individuals engaged in violent and destructive behavior. They are intent on harming people. Violent extremists wreak havoc to drain the city resources.

Pulling people from their cars and beating them in the streets is a horrific violent crime. We must all rise up …and condemn the violence and say simply this. It will not stand.

Wheeler chides police as well as protestors for being involved in the violence, and he calls for law enforcement to implement police reforms.

The Governor of Oregon, Kate Brown states the same cry to end violence in a tweet

At the same time, the Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt said that some crimes not rising to the level he concludes are violent enough to be prosecuted will not be. In other words, he will pick and choose what crimes are to be prosecuted.

Since recently taking office, Schmidt has been seen as soft on crime. In july he tweeted :
