Gophers dealt with tough standards on way to their earliest NCAA appearances

The 1972 and 1982 Gophers got there with NCAA titles. The 1989 Gophers were dealing with a Big Ten at its zenith. One of the 1989 mainstays was guard Kevin Lynch, whose nephew Reggie is now Minnesota's center.
