Jewel Osco recalls tuna salad over potential listeria contamination
Jewel Osco stores in multiple states, including Illinois, are recalling select items containing tuna salad due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The action follows a recall put in place by Reser’s Fine Food, the supplier of the tuna salad due to possible contamination in bread crumbs used in the tuna salad, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and possibly fatal infections in young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA.
Healthy individuals can suffer high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea from a Listeria infection and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, the FDA stated in a press release.
Anyone who purchased the recalled items are encouraged to throw it away or return it to their local store to receive a full refund.
No injuries or illnesses have been reported due to the recalled food, the FDA said.
