Victims tackle suspect in Facebook PlayStation sale that turned into robbery, rifle shooting in Roseland
A man trying to buy a PlayStation was robbed and shot with a rifle instead, according to police, who said the robber was arrested after the man shot and two other people tackled, disarmed, and held him for police Thursday night in Roseland.
Around 10:45 p.m., three males, including a 19-year-old man and a witness, met with someone over Facebook Marketplace who was selling a PlayStation in the first block of West 103rd Place, police said.
Instead of completing the sale, the seller "snatched" money from the buyer and attempted to flee with the PlayStation, according to Chicago police reports obtained by the Sun-Times.
When the three tried to stop him, he then turned around and fired two shots from a rifle, striking a 19-year-old man in his left wrist and right calf, police said.
The quick-thinking victims and a witness were able to disarm the robber by kicking the rifle under a vehicle, and "restrain" him until officers arrived. the report said.
The 19-year-old was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was in good condition, police said.
The rifle and Playstation were both recovered from the scene, officials said.
Charges were pending in the attack, which police said were part of a pattern being investigated by Area 2 detectives.
