Bears rule out 3 defensive starters vs. Cowboys; RB D'Andre Swift in question
As expected, the Bears officially ruled out top cornerback Jaylon Johnson with a groin injury. If they want to start the clock on his injured reserve time with this game, they need to put him on the list by Saturday at 3 p.m.
Johnson would have to miss at least four games if he goes on IR, which seems inevitable given that he is seeking opinions on whether to get surgery and said this week it’s possible he’ll be out for the season.
Nickel corner Kyler Gordon, who could’ve played outside if needed, also was ruled out and will miss his third consecutive game with a hamstring injury.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards tried to come back from a hamstring injury against the Lions, but left after 30 snaps and is out against the Cowboys.
Running back D’Andre Swift, who played 37 snaps and ran 12 times for 63 yards and a touchdown against the Lions, has a quad injury and was limited all week. The Bears designated him questionable against the Cowboys.
All indications are that Swift will play, and the Bears badly need him available.
After Swift, who has topped 1,000 yards rushing and receiving combined three times in his career, they have unproven backs in Roschon Johnson and Kyle Monangai. Johnson got 55 carries all last season and doesn’t have one this season and Monangai is a rookie.
