Michael O'Brien's Super 25 high school football rankings for Week 5
All three Lincoln-Way schools are now in the Super 25. That's an impressive feat for the district.
Lincoln-Way West knocked off Lincoln-Way Central in a close, well-played game in Week 4 and that defeat didn't seem like enough to drop the Knights out of the rankings.
Lincoln-Way Central doesn't have a huge win yet, but its victory against Providence looks even better after Carmel knocked off St. Laurence in Week 4...sorry if that is hard to follow, but those are the things I think about on Sunday mornings.
Montini has the biggest rise this week. The Broncos knocked off Fenwick. I'll have more on them in Four Downs.
The Friars, Loyola, Downers Grove North, Barrington and Lyons all lost but are successful programs with big wins already this season, so they stay in the rankings but drop a few spots.
Sandburg joins for the first time this season. I'm not entirely sold on the Eagles. They have a nice win against Richards but their opponents are a combined 8-8 this season. We should find out a lot more about Sandburg when they take on Homewood-Flossmoor and Troy McAllister, the Eagles' former coach, on Friday.
St. Rita and Palatine drop out of the Super 25. The Mustangs (and Joliet Catholic) may be better than some ranked teams, but both schools need to pick up some wins to work back into the Super 25.
