Bears QB Caleb Williams catches first career pass: touchdown throw from WR DJ Moore on trick play

CINCINNATI — Bears coach Ben Johnson got ultra-creative — and bold — Sunday against the Bengals to snap his offense out of its struggles in the red zone.

As the Bears ran aground again, this time facing fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line, they called what initially looked like a design run to the right by quarterback Caleb Williams. However, Williams pitched to wide receiver Rome Odunze heading left, Odunze pitched to receiver DJ Moore coming back to the right, and Moore threw to Williams wide open in the end zone for his first career reception.

The Bears needed it badly after falling behind 7-0 when Bengals return man Charlie Jones ran the opening kickoff back 98 yards for a touchdown.

It was the first career completion by Moore, who was 0 for 2.

The Bears tried another trick play earlier in the possession in which tight end Cole Kmet threw to Odunze for what would've been a 14-yard gain, but it was ruled incomplete on replay review.
