Something strange is happening on #LoveIslandTok. There are videos floating around of Huda Mustafa (of Love Island season-seven fame) saying, “People keep asking me what perfume I wear, so I’m just going to tell you guys. It’s Angham, I think, by Latafa. It literally smells just like B-burry Goddess but better. It’s so fucking fire.” Latafa Angham is a floral vanilla scent that’s sold by places like Shein and Amazon. Those clips are smashed together with snippets of fellow Islanders (including Jeremiah Brown) gushing about how amazing Huda smells. Of course, many of the videos have the perfume linked on TikTok Shop.
There’s something uncanny about these videos. Once you look closer, it becomes obvious that they’re probablydeep fakes based on the unnatural way Huda’s mouth moves as she “talks” about the perfume. Truly horrifying stuff.
All of that should’ve clued me in, but when I first casually scrolled past these videos on my feed, I didn’t immediately clock that they were most likely fake. I’m not alone — another Cut writer agreed that she thought the videos were real, and some of them have comments like “You can tell she’s a girls girl because she immediately shares what it is” and “I’m so easily influenced” from accounts that appear to belong to real people. Several TikTok users bought the perfume after seeing these ads. Even Teen Vogue reported that Huda had revealed her perfume to be Lattafa’s Angham (the publication has since edited the story and removed a link to one of the TikToks).
Here’s the thing: I’m sure Huda smells scrumptious, and we probably should want to know what she wears. I’ll be the first in line to ask her once she gets back from Fiji. However, I’m willing to bet that she’s not wearing “Angham, I think, by Latafa.” That’s just me, though!
