No Other Nepo Baby Is Doing It Like Björk’s Daughter

There are two types of nepo babies. The first is a straightforward definition: It’s when one or both parents are either a celebrity or a person who is wealthy and well connected in said baby’s chosen industry or an adjacent one. The second is less discussed and a little more nebulous but, in my opinion, a far greater advantage in life — it’s when a baby’s parents are particularly cultured and creative. Call it cool privilege.

I say all that to explain that 22-year-old Ísadóra Bjarkardóttir Barney, the daughter of Björk and the American artist and director Matthew Barney, has the unique distinction of being both types of nepo baby. She’s been acting, modeling, and making music since she was a teenager, but recently, she checked off another milestone: opening a fashion show. It was during Copenhagen Fashion Week at Cecilie Bahnsen’s tenth-anniversary runway show on Thursday, per People.

In a translucent white tulle dress, metallic makeup, and silver-and-white sneakers that tied it all together, she looked like a fairy. Barney made her modeling debut in 2022 with a Miu Miu campaign and has been modeling regularly ever since. She also recently performed in an experimental movement piece called BE SEEN, NOT HEARD and posted about a performance-art project back in January. She’s dabbled in filmmaking, music, and acting; in 2022, she was interviewed by The Face about her debut role in The Northman, which she told the outlet she filmed in Ireland after graduating from high school in New York.

​”A lot of people do work really hard,” she said in the interview. “And they lack the connections, [where] you need someone to introduce you to the right person. I’m really lucky to have those introductions.” Congratulations to her for being cool and self-aware.
