Ego Nwodim Is Leaving SNL
Another Saturday Night Live cutie is out. Ego Nwodim, who’s been on the late-night show’s cast for seven seasons, officially announced her departure on Friday in an Instagram post appropriately captioned “‼️‼️‼️.”
“The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL,” she wrote. “I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories, and that laughter, with me always.” She signed off the note with a request to be invited to the cast and crew’s future weddings, which I’m imagining to be exactly like the SNL after-parties, just with an earlier start time.
Her departure comes at the tail end of the show’s annual early-fall cast shake-up, when Lorne Michaels cleans house and announces new additions to the cast. So far — along with Nwodim — Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow will not be returning for season 51. Thankfully, Bowen Yang is still around.
Five new cast members have been added to this year’s lineup: Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, Veronika Slowikowska, and Ben Marshall of Please Don’t Destroy. Time will tell if any of them can fill Nwodim’s shoes. At least we’ll always have Lisa from Temecula.
