“I use clothes as armor, because how I dress is how I feel,” Helsa founder Elsa Hosk tells The Cut. “My style really shows the world who I am as a person.” Despite living in L.A., the Swedish model has yet to adjust to the weather and still has a closet full of coats, jackets, and pieces she can layer.

She does most of her shopping online, with deep dives into auction sites and Etsy. “I’ll find anything online. If I have a vintage piece in mind, I’ll scour the whole internet for it,” she says. “I love the hunt.”

See where Hosk got the pieces that made their way into her curated wardrobe and home.

Where did you get your favorite piece of clothing?

Elsa Hosk

Helsa. This summer it was so hot in LA. I struggle with summer clothes. As someone who loves fashion, I love layers, but I don’t like the heat. This Helsa minidress is a very roomy, big tech poplin, and it kind of feels like nylon. I wanted to make a dress I could throw on and wear with a really cute shoe. It’s really cool, simple, and easy. I find myself grabbing it all the time.

I think it’s hard to express yourself in summer clothes. Who am I in these tiny little things?

Where did you get your most recent purchase?

Reklaim. The partnership with them has been really nice because I’m someone who has always advocated for vintage and recycling. I always sell my clothes and buy vintage. Circular fashion is so important when so many things are being produced. Luxury is so expensive, and if you can get a deal somewhere, it’s nice.

Reklaim has a concierge service and can source anything you want. There was a Birkin I had wanted, and I hadn’t been able to get it at the store because it’s so hard to get, but they were able to find it in a few days, which was incredible. They asked me to be part of their conscious collective and do a capsule collection. I was excited to pick things off the website and curate a vintage bag and watch capsule.

Where did you get what’s in your bag?

Make Up For Ever and Saie. The lip combo is the most important, right? My absolute favorite lip liner is the Make Up For Ever in Total Taupe. I love the Saie lip oils. I’m also obsessed with their concealers. Every time I wear it, people ask me what I’ve done with my skin, and I think it’s the consistency of it. It looks like skin but elevated. The other thing I keep in my bag is my sunscreen. I love SunsolveMD; it has one for every need, so I always keep one in my bag.

Where did you get the item you wear the most?

Helsa. It’s the Little Boy Tee. I’m a pants person, so I like to wear a tee with a baggy trouser and a nice belt. Everything looks really effortless and cool with the perfect T-shirt. I’ll wear a tee with vintage Levi’s or denim shorts.

Georges Jouve. I’m really into interiors, so I’ve collected a few pieces from Georges Jouve, which is this amazing French ceramic artist from the 1950s. Our house is from the ’50s, so a lot of things I collect are from that era. I have a beautiful vase, and I keep fresh flowers from the farmers’ market there. Then I have a little drawer for my AirPods Max. I have TMJ, so I have a jaw stretcher in there, and an eye mask, too.

Where did you get the item you splurged on the most?

A sofa dealer in Paris. I shop on auction sites and I love galleries, too. If I see something online, I’ll reach out and go see it in person. I love going to Paris and seeing all the galleries. We just got a place in New York, and I’m trying to do something different. We were just in Japan, and I went to see all the furniture galleries and art galleries there. I got a John Royere couch, and it’s bright red and very rare, so I just decided to go for it.

Where did you get the item you’ve had for the longest time?

Elsa Hosk

My coat is from Phoebe Philo’s Céline. I got it when she first started working with them. I think it’s from her second collection. I bought it at the store. It’s really special, and I’ll keep it in my closet for a long time. It’s a weird shape, but very beautiful. It’s in a camel color with very long, slim sleeves; it’s incredible. I also love my Helsa top coat (pictured); without fail, I always get the most compliments when I wear it.

Where did you get your favorite pair of shoes?

Elsa Hosk

The Row. I think I have all of their loafers. They’re so good! They’re so simple and wearable; they go with everything. They’re very understated and well made. I think all the loafers are where I would spend my money if I were new to their shoes. They’re so soft, it feels like you’re wearing socks.

Where did you get your favorite item to layer?

Elsa Hosk

Etsy. I love a scarf; that’s the accessory of right now. You can tie a scarf on your bag. I’ve always been a fan of the scarf. I have a little collection and I think it’s growing. I love a head scarf; I think it’s so chic. If you have a bad hair day, you can just wrap the scarf around your head, tie it around your waist or over your jeans. How chic is that?
