Wait, Harry Styles Ran the Berlin Marathon?
Harry Styles has been so busy lately. He’s been seen making out at Glastonbury, strolling around Rome with his purported situationship Zoë Kravitz, and exploring Brooklyn on a few brisk FWB walks. Now, the pop star has apparently taken his talents to the racetrack: On Sunday, Styles reportedly ran the Berlin Marathon under the fake name “Sted Sarandos.” Besting his Tokyo Marathon appearance in March, he finished with a time of 2:59:13. I understand we call this a “sub-three” time and that it is pretty good.
While fans on the sidelines spotted Styles throughout the race, organizers first confirmed his participation to the German newspaper Tagesspiegel. According to them, of the 55,000 competitors, he reportedly finished 2,241st overall and 524th in the over-30 age group. Upon reaching the finish line, the singer took a photo with two-time Paralympic gold medalist Richard Whitehead, who posted the shot to Instagram with the caption “2.58 in Berlin with my mate!! Anyone know him!! ????.”
A few lingering questions: “Sted Sarandos.” God, why? It’s hard not to see this pseudonym as a nod to Netflix co-CEO and multimillionaire Ted Sarandos, which, of all the possible references, feels corporate and anti–rock star. Also, I am not a runner, but typically when folks get into running out of the blue, they are usually (1) going through a breakup or (2) running from something. Could it be that he and Kravitz are now just friends sans benefits? Or could someone be dreading having to get in the studio for his long-awaited fourth album? But maybe I’m being dramatic. There’s a chance he just loves a little endorphin blast and a chance to wear a headband outside.
