Donald Trump and Elon Musk Reconnected at Charlie Kirk’s Funeral
After their explosive falling out over the summer, it was unclear if President Donald Trump and Elon Musk would ever reconcile. And while it doesn’t seem like they’ve fully made up, the two men were able to have a civil conversation for the first time in months at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service on Sunday. At one point during the ceremony, Musk was seated next to Trump, and they shook hands and chatted for a bit.
Apparently, Kirk himself, who was loyal to Trump but also a fan of Musk, had been hoping for this reunion. “I am hopeful, optimistic and will do everything I possibly can to try and bring this back together because I think we are stronger together,” Kirk said during an appearance on Megyn Kelly’s podcast in June, shortly after Musk and Trump’s big fight. “I hope these two titans can come together to keep trying to save America.”
Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for Turning Point USA and the executive producer of Kirk’s podcast, celebrated Trump and Musk’s meetup in a post on X. He shared a photo of the two men sitting together and wrote, “Charlie so badly wanted these two men to come back together. I hope they’re saying to each other, ‘For Charlie.’” Later, Musk followed suit, sharing a photo of himself and the president with “For Charlie” as the caption. The White House put up a similar post.

Trump later told reporters that his encounter with Musk wasn’t a prearranged moment to honor Kirk’s wishes. “Well, Elon came over and said hello, and no, it’s nothing to do with that,” Trump said on Air Force One after the memorial. “I thought it was nice that he came over. Had a little conversation. We had a very good relationship, but it was nice that he came over.”
During his eulogy — when he wasn’t talking about autism, Joe Biden’s mental capacity, or sending federal agents into Chicago — Trump spoke about what he saw as the difference between him and Kirk. “He did not hate his opponents. He wanted the best for them,” Trump told the crowd. “That’s where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponent, and I don’t want the best for them.”
Given the downright polite nature of their encounter on Sunday, it seems that Musk might have been downgraded from opponent to “guy I have to see sometimes.” Meanwhile, the Tesla CEO seemed moved by the Lord’s Prayer, tweeting out, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
So … feud over? For the sake of the greater good, let’s hope things between these two stay sort of amicable but not exactly warm.
