Alyssa Milano Got Her Breast Implants Removed
On Wednesday, Alyssa Milano announced in an Instagram post that she was undergoing surgery to remove her breast implants. The 52-year-old actress posted a photo of herself in a hospital cap and gown, writing that she was excited to let go of “the body that was sexualized, that was abused, that I believed was necessary for me to be attractive; to be loved; to be successful; to be happy.” She also noted that she hoped the decision to remove her implants would save her 11-year-old daughter, Bella, from “ever feeling those same unhealthy demands.”
“Today I am loved, I am feminine, I am attractive, and I am successful. None of that is because of my implants,” Milano wrote. “I will still be all of those things when I wake up and they are gone. There is so much joy in that knowledge and freedom in letting go of what was never me in the first place.”
The Charmed actress went on to credit other women who have shared their own explant-surgery stories, including RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, for helping her come to the decision. She also clarified that just because removing her implants was the right choice for her does not mean that has to be true for other women.
“I want to be clear that many women will find freedom and beauty in choosing their implants,” she added. “What is a false narrative for me may be the exact right thing for them, and I am so happy that we can all find our femininity and peace on our own terms.”
In an update to the post, Milano informed her followers that the surgery was a success, thanking them for their support. “I’m cozy in my bed eating the food my mama made me,” she wrote. Milano joins scores of celebrities — including SZA, Kylie Jenner, and Bella Hadid — who have removed their implants or expressed regrets about their plastic surgery. But now, Milano said, she’s her “authentic self:” “Today, I’m free.”
